ABOUT ME
RUIDI ZHU RP, LMHC, MA
Registered Psychotherapist,
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Hello, I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counsellor in New York State and a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario. I spent my childhood in China and moved to Canada and the United States for education in my young adulthood. I currently live in Ontario, Canada.
As an immigrant and a bicultural individual, I understand the experience of being "different" and stuck between conflicting identities and cultures. As somebody who's lived in multiple countries since a young age, I also understand the hardships and challenges of having to adapt to new environments. All these experiences helped me learn to embrace my unique background and identity.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading and fine arts, also have my own personal art projects.
Therapeutic Approach & Clinical Experiences
I specialize in cross-cultural counselling and trauma treatment. I mainly work with immigrants, Asian Americans, people of colour, and individuals from marginalized groups.
In my practice, I place a strong emphasis on social justice and help people become aware of the impact of systematic oppression and intersectionality. I strive to create a safe and accepting space for my clients to explore their emotions and thoughts freely and comfortably.
I use an integrative therapy approach that draws from psychodynamic traditions, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Lifespan Integration (LI). I tailor my approach depending on each of my client's unique needs and goals.
I have more than 2500 hours of clinical experience. I worked in two outpatient mental health clinics and one private psychotherapy practice in New York City before I moved to Ontario. They help me accumulate rich experiences working with clients from diverse backgrounds.
